So I finally did something that I said I wanted to do for years! I am now a licensed ham radio operator. My call sign is KE5ZJS.
Ever since I met Lyn Meter and Mike Proper, both fellow hams, I wanted to get licensed. At the time Lyn was telling me that instead of calling his daughter Sarah I could reach her over the radio and for some reason that just sounded really cool. I've since told that story to some of my friends and they just make me feel like the biggest nerd on earth but I take those kinds of comments as complements these days.
I have to make a confession though, I didn't finally take the exam just because I wanted to. I actually took the exam because it was a completion requirement for my Project Lab I at school.
Anyways, on February 21, 2009 I took the American Radio Relay League's Technicians license at the local salvation army and a few days later I found my name in the FCC's database and a few weeks later I received several letters from the FCC and more junk mail than I ever wanted.
